Veinlite & Infection Control


All Veinlite models, including LED+, EMS Pro, PEDI2, LEDX, Neo, and R  are designed to be used with single-use disposable plastic covers at all times. Disposable plastic covers are inexpensive and easy to use, allowing providers to easily improve infection control measures during procedures involving IV access.

Because Veinlite devices are used for finding and accessing veins, the plastic covers are effective in preventing device contamination from an infected patient. This reduces the risk of further contamination of equipment and spread of disease, including blood borne illnesses and those subject to airborne or droplet transmission.

COVID-19
As the novel Coronavirus that causes COVID-19 spreads around the world, Infection Control has moved into the mainstream. Infection Control is considered a practical sub-discipline of epidemiology, aimed at preventing the spread of infectious disease from patient-to-patient and patient-to-provider contexts.

Basics of Infection Control
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC.gov/) lists the following standard precautions for all patient care:

  • Performing proper hand hygiene
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) in cases of possible exposure
  • Following respiratory hygiene/cough etiquette
  • Ensuring proper patient placement
  • Proper handling and disinfecting of equipment and environment
  • Careful handling of textiles and laundry
  • Following safe injection practices
  • Ensuring healthcare provider safety (i.e. needle handling)


With a disease like COVID-19, droplet and airborne precautions also come into effect. These include source control (placing a mask on the patient), restricted access of personnel to patient, limiting transportation of patients, and other methods.
